Slimming And Beauty In One Machine

Our sexy Pressotherapy machine

One of the buzz words that's been floating around the last couple of years is lymph drainage. You've probably seen it mentioned in a couple of my posts, and I talk about it a lot! But what is lymph drainage and why is it important, not just for weight loss, but also for general health and wellbeing?

First off, what is Lymph?

Lymph is a clear-to-white fluid made of white blood cells, especially lymphocytes, the cells that attack bacteria in the blood and body tissues, as well as fluid from the intestines called chyle, which contains proteins and fats.

The lymph system is a network of organs, lymph nodes, lymph ducts, and lymph vessels that make and move lymph from tissues to the bloodstream. The lymph system is a major part of the body's immune system and basically acts like your body's sewerage system.

Why do we have to drain it?

Unlike blood, lymph doesn't have a natural pumping mechanism. Instead it is moves around through the movements of the body. Generally, a healthy lymph system works just fine when we drink enough water and get regular exercise (think whole body movement like yoga or swimming), but our pressotherapy machine adds a little oomph to the mix. Our need for additional interventions comes either from being stagnant for several hours a day, or from illness and/or operations.

Lymph drainage is an effective modern method that encourages the natural circulation of the lymph through the body and helps to create and maintain a balance between blood flow and the lymphatic system.

How does this affect weight and what we look like?

Without mincing words, when your lymph is clogged, you look puffy. In addition, it also keeps your organs from functioning well because they become weighed down and sluggish. That glow that you have a couple of hours after running or swimming or yoga? That comes from lightening the load and getting the sewerage moved out.

To Massage or Machine?

This is mostly a personal decision. Some people don't enjoy massage, and as beneficial as the machine is, it is more of a general treatment. If you do enjoy massage, then getting a hands on drainage can be really beneficial if you are struggling with specific nodes or health concerns.

If you've been to Edna's Space, then you've seen the machine, and if you have had a facial treatment, you've had a very simply facial drainage massage.
